Problem: why does volume outbound stall?

01
Replies

Why are reply rates drifting down?

The same list plus more volume is the only lever left, and it is the lever that burns the domain.

02
Priorities

Which accounts should reps work first?

There is no ranking that says which twenty accounts matter this week.

03
Inbound

Why does inbound arrive with no context?

Someone books, and the rep researches them in the ten minutes before the call.

04
Personalisation

Is personalisation just a merge field?

First name, company name, and a line about their “impressive growth” that could be sent to anyone.

If two of these are true, the problem is not effort. It is that nobody owns the system underneath the effort. That system starts with an ideal customer profile that decides which accounts are worth contacting, and a score that ranks them before anyone opens a sequence.

What do we build for a sales team?

Fractional services

The GTM Engineering Company

Senior GTM engineering delivered as a fractional service, not a full-time hire. Four builds on one evergreen data layer, and the motions that run on top of it — all inside the CRM you already own.

Signal Based Outbound

Outreach on real signals.
  • Signals sourced where they actually exist: GitHub activity, ad libraries, review text, hiring pages
  • Do-not-contact and segmentation logic before a single send
  • Copy written for the signal, so the first line could only be sent to them
You end up with:campaigns that open with a reason, and reply rates that survive the second month.

Data-led Prioritization

Right accounts first.
  • Ideal customer profile scoring, tiered from firmographic, technographic and behavioural inputs
  • Predictive models where the outcome is worth modelling
  • Scores written back into the CRM, next to the record the rep opens
You end up with:a ranked list on Monday morning instead of a debate about it.

Inbound Automation

Qualified before the call.
  • Every booked meeting triggers enrichment of the person and the company
  • An AI brief summarising who they are and what they are likely to want
  • The brief lands in Slack before the call, not in a tab someone forgot to open
You end up with:reps who walk in prepared, on every meeting, without prep time.

Strategic Activation

Signals into booked meetings.
  • Multi-channel sequencing across email and LinkedIn, tested against each other
  • Controlled experiments rather than opinion: channel order, message, segment
  • Dashboards on campaign health, so a dying sequence is visible early
You end up with:a motion you can point at and say which part produced the meeting.

What do you own when we are done?

01
Workflow

Who owns the workflows?

You do. Every workflow is built under your logins, not ours.

02
Runbook

Do we get a runbook?

Yes, on every engagement: the “how to keep it humming” guide.

03
Builds

Are the builds recorded?

Yes, every build, so training is watching, not shadowing.

04
No lock-in

Is there any lock-in?

None. We build on your stack and say so when something has to go.

05
Architecture

Is the architecture documented?

Yes. Fields, pipelines and joins, written down.

06
Sessions

How often do we meet?

Weekly. Live table builds, not status emails.

Is this a fit for your sales team?

"Distribution is the new moat. Code got cheap; attention never did."

  1. Quick wins in 2 to 4 weeks, shipping by day 90

  2. The playbook is yours, documented as we build

  3. Every record is checked before it hits your CRM

  4. The tools are in your name, on your card, and you keep it all

  1. Hiring cycle, then months of ramp

  2. The playbook stays with the agency

  3. Data from every tool, none of it verified

  4. The tools are in the agency’s name

Who is it for?

You own a number and a team
Your market is too small to spray
You already run sequences
You want the experiment, not the opinion
Your team is spending hours on sales admin

Who is it not for?

Companies without a CRM or basic tech stack in place
Companies that do not believe data is the key to a good GTM motion
Teams looking for full-time headcount instead of consulting

Questions: what do sales leaders ask?

What does ICP mean in sales?

An ideal customer profile (ICP) is the written definition of which accounts are worth selling to: the firmographic, technographic and behavioural traits your best-fit customers share, turned into a score that ranks accounts before anyone opens a sequence. In sales it is not a slide, it is what decides who gets contacted this week and in what order. GTM Engineering builds the ICP as tier-based scoring and writes the score back into the CRM, next to the record the rep opens.

How do you define an ICP for B2B SaaS outbound?

Start it as research, not as a workshop: the first stage of a GTM Engineering engagement is ICP research followed by target account selection criteria, before a single sequence is built. The inputs are firmographic, technographic and behavioural, and the definition is only finished once it is tiered and scored, because an ICP nobody can sort by is a document rather than a system. For outbound the test is simple: the top tier has to answer which twenty accounts matter this week.

How do you build an ICP scoring model in HubSpot or Salesforce?

The model is tier-based rather than one opaque number: firmographic, technographic and behavioural inputs combine into a fit score, a predictive model is added only where the outcome is worth modelling, and the result is written back as a field on the record the rep opens. GTM Engineering builds it inside the HubSpot or Salesforce instance you already own and configures the integration as part of the engagement, so the score sits where reps already work instead of in a spreadsheet nobody opens. The enrichment that feeds the model is a separate build, covered on the Operations page.

Which tools do you use for ICP scoring and signal-based outbound?

Yours first. GTM Engineering scores inside the CRM you already own and assembles the rest from the stack most teams already pay for, including Clay, Apollo, Smartlead, Instantly and Apify. Signals are pulled from where they actually exist, such as GitHub activity, ad libraries, review text and hiring pages, and the sequencing runs multi-channel across email and LinkedIn with the channels tested against each other. Everything is built under your logins and stays tool agnostic, so nothing has to be re-bought to keep it running.

Is this just another lead list?

No. Lists are a commodity. The work is the signal layer that decides who is on the list this week, and the reason the first line of the email is true.

Will this burn our domain?

Volume burns domains. Signal-based targeting sends less and lands more, and deliverability is part of the build rather than an afterthought.

How fast do we see reply data?

First replies typically inside 2 to 4 weeks. A full engine, tested across channels, by day 90.

GTM Engineering

Durable pipeline infrastructure, engineered into your CRM — signal-based outbound, enrichment, scoring, and attribution that compound.
